Red light violation in Chicago?

March 2, 2010 - 8:28 am 2 Comments

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: IL
I was driving on a state Road and I stopped on a red light. When the Green light was given for Left turn, I moved ahead (not a left turn I drove straight).
A Sherrif was standing there and he immediately stopped me and gave me a ticket. The ticket says I have to pay $75 penalty by mail/web.
I am fine with that.

The Sherrif confiscated my drivers licence and said he’ll return it by mail but I am not sure when I’ll get that back. I came to know from my co-workers that IL laws says that if any one caught by police for a minor traffic violation, they will be supervised by Court for 90 days and if no violation found again in 90 days then no report will be made to the Driving Record.

Is that some thing means I’ll get my license back after 90 days?

I’m VERY surprised he took your license, since technically you can’t drive without it.

What they are talking about is their version of accelerated disposition, I’m not sure (can’t tell online) if your ticket qualifies. I would call the Sherrif’s office and ask as to return time, and if you are able to drive in the meantime without risk.

Dance Party Friday – Bend over… Shake a Tailfeather

March 1, 2010 - 4:46 pm 7 Comments

On Fridays at 5:45AM when the roads are clear, the Dance Party begins on Local 12’s Good Morning Cincinnati. Rarely are rarely are viewers told to “bend over” during a traffic report. Bob Herzog, however, requests just that. Of course, it’s just so viewers can “Shake a Tailfeather.”

Now that Clinton’s death-defying wins in Texas and Ohio have prolonged the contest and slowed Obama’s momentum among party poobahs, there’s a bigger story to watch: an increasing willingness among superdelegates to band together and seek concessions from the presidential candidates in return for votes at the convention. Last night, the Politico reported that bloc of uncommitted Ohio supers–perhaps including Reps. March Kaptur, Dennis Kucinich, Tim Ryan, Zack Space, Betty Sutton and Charlie Wilson, and Sen. Ahh, George! You were so close! You and this conflation of speech and money. While you may be in line with the current courts, as someone obsessed with original intent, do you really believe that the founding fathers defined speech in such a way that would dis-proportionally award more speech (and therefore influence) to some and not others? Isn’t speech the very quality that a person has idependant of status and money? In the fusion of democracy and capitalism that currently defines American life, speech is the only freedom left that transcends class, but when you say that money is speech, then you disenfranchize all those without it – surely not an original intent. Oh, and where does the constitution directly say that money is speech? As a strict constructionist, isn’t that a problem?

Danger in disguise: candy-flavor drugs

Strawberry meth hasn’t hit locally in a big way, but police are on lookout

What if someone had the brilliant notion to make "the world’s most dangerous drug" sweet tasting by adding candy flavors and making it look like Pop Rocks? Well, someone did and it might be catching on. As a father of a fifth grader, I was naturally concerned when I heard about the newest form of methamphetamine, known as "candy-meth." An e-mail has been circulating on the Web, alleging that candy-flavored meth is being passed out to kids at elementary schools. To verify evidence to support the claims in the e-mail go to Snopes.com .

(see link http://www.snopes.com/horrors/drugs/candymeth.asp),

Candy meth is a potential threat to anyone tricked into thinking that it’s not harmful.

Parents need to be informed on what kind of drugs are out there. Furthermore, parents need to talk to their children about the present dangers of drugs.

Here are the basic facts that exist regarding candy-flavored meth:

- candy meth is most commonly flavored with strawberry and is known on the street as "Strawberry Quick."

- other flavors may include chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape, and orange

- tell your children to never accept candy from strangers, or even friends if received from someone else

-meth is especially dangerous for kids, with symptoms of anxiety, paranoia, and increased heart rate

I am sure we can expect it in the future as trends tend to move through the larger cities," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, head of Dallas’ narcotics division.

The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Dallas office has not encountered the drug, but local agents are on the lookout, said spokeswoman Terri K. Wyatt.

"These are evil drug dealers who are marketing to kids," Special Agent Wyatt said.

Local bust

At 2 a.m. Tuesday, a Lake Worth officer spotted a man sleeping inside a Pontiac Firebird parked at a Sonic restaurant on State Highway 199. When police searched Ronnie N. Smith’s car, they found more than 400 grams of strawberry meth in two large plastic bags, in addition to various prescription drugs, several stolen credit cards and driver’s licenses and about $1,800 in cash.

The pink crystals in the large bags tested positive for meth, said Lake Worth police Capt. Dave Tatsak. While officers weren’t inclined to give the stuff a taste test – doing so would be illegal – it "definitely smelled like strawberry," he said.

Mr. Smith, 45, of Jacksboro, was arrested on drug possession charges and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He requested an attorney and refused to talk to investigators, leaving them with no idea where he got the Strawberry Quick or what his intentions with it were.

On April 11, a Fort Worth police officer found the drug during a traffic stop. About 5 p.m., the officer pulled over a Ford Explorer on a traffic violation in the 2300 block of Ridgmar Plaza and found a 20-year-old man in possession of some prescription Tylenol for which he had no prescription.

On the way to jail, the officer saw that the man was squirming, and once at the jail, the officer looked under the back seat and found a cigarette wrapper. It contained about a gram of "pink-colored, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamines," also known as Strawberry Quick, the officer wrote in the report.

"Depending on what the manufacturers use to cut the meth down, it can have various coloration, including pink," said Lt. Dean Sullivan, a Fort Worth police spokesman. "But our officers watch the TV news, too, so the catch phrase ‘Strawberry Quick’ did appear in at least one report."

He said he knew of no other accounts of the drug in Fort Worth.

About a dozen other local police agencies contacted said they had not come across the drug.

Growing concern

Concern over strawberry meth spiked nationally in February, when the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s special investigations unit issued a police bulletin alerting law enforcement colleagues that the Carson City Sheriff’s Department had seized some of the substance in late January.

The bulletin noted that the drug first turned up in Sacramento, Calif., where dealers were cooking meth with strawberry-flavored drink mix to cut down on the drug’s bitter taste when snorted.

"If meth is cut with something after it is cooked, it loses its potency," said Special Agent Wyatt in Dallas. "With this, it’s cooked into it. It’s not diluted. It retains its potency."

Arkansas police also have reported finding strawberry meth, and the DEA in Washington, D.C., reports that a similar pinkish-red crystalline drug has turned up in Washington state, Idaho, New Mexico, Missouri and Minnesota.

Two weeks ago, the rise in reports prompted Se

Thank you very much. I had no clue that people would willingly do disguise drugs as candy. You know what? You’re probably going to save some kid’s life. Thanks again..

Police Driving???

February 24, 2010 - 6:11 am 5 Comments

Today, driving from the University to my house, 2 blocks to arrive there, a woman in the mittle of the street stopped me becuse her Ford Truck (semi-new) was been stolen, quickly I made a U turn to persuit whith my 90 Plymouth Sundance, while I was driving, I called to police to report the licence plates number(this is not allowed by the law, but was an emergency), the stolen vehicle turn on many streets in a residential area until the truck took a boulevad with too much traffic, so I lost it there.

I could to say the license number to the operator, but I could’n to approch more because I don’t know what kind of gun the man could have.

My question is: What web site could I to find info about of police driving? I respect the police work, but at an emergency in too necessary, I feel a desire of to have done something better to catch that man.

A stolen truck is not an emergency. Pursuing a stolen vehicle is something that even the police consider dangerous – for a member of the public to do so is foolhardy. You could have caused a serious accident, injuring yourself or others in the process. The best thing to do is call the police, give them the best description you can, and let them do their job.

How Can CCNY Name a Facility After a Convicted Cop Killer and Prison Escapee on the FBI Most Wanted List?

February 22, 2010 - 5:42 am 7 Comments

"Only The Board of Trustees of The City University of New York may designate or name College and University facilities," Goldstein wrote to City College President Gregory H. Williams.

The Guillermo Morales/Assata Shakur Community Center on the third floor of CCNY’s North Academic Center was named in 1989 for Shakur, convicted in the 1973 murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster, and Morales, a former member of FALN, which is a Puerto Rican liberation group that claimed responsibility for a rash of bombings in New York in the mid-1970s.

The center is shared by the Student Liberation Action Movement and Students for Educational Rights — groups with approximately 45 members total, said Mary Lou Edmondson, spokeswoman for the college.

The United Federation of Students, Union de Jovenes Dominicanos, The Messenger, The Pre-University Program, CCNY Coalition Against the War and CUNY for All! are also listed as sharing the space, according to a sign on the door emblazoned with a painted fist.

"We would like to close by saying that the American people have a right and a duty to find out the facts about this situation for themselves before they judge it," the student statement said. "And Assata, we love you."

In 2005, the FBI named Shakur, whose real name is Joanne Deborah Chesimard, to its list of most wanted domestic terrorists, placing a $1 million bounty on her head.

In 1977, Shakur was convicted of Foerster’s murder during a routine traffic stop. Shakur had been a member of the Black Liberation Army and was wanted in connection with several felonies, including bank robbery, the FBI said.

She skipped out on the life sentence, escaping from prison in Clinton, N.J., on Nov. 2, 1979. She’s now believed to be living in Cuba.

A City College student wrote a letter to the Daily News about the naming of the community center, prompting the paper to report Monday that police groups have been angered the school allowed the room to be named for a convicted cop killer.

"We use tax dollars to support an institution that indemnifies a cold-blooded terrorist?" Dave Jones, president of the New Jersey State Troopers Fraternal Association, told the Daily News.

"She’s a cowardly, cold-blooded convicted murderer who’s part of a murdering sect," he told the newspaper. "She’s no different from those people who flew those planes into those towers and destroyed all those innocent lives."

On her Web site, http://www.assatashakur.org/, Shakur says she is innocent.

"I have been a political activist most of my life, and although the U.S. government has done everything in its power to criminalize me, I am not a criminal, nor have I ever been one," she said.

Shakur, who is the godmother of slain hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur, has been heralded as a hero among the hip-hop community and political activist groups and reviled as a villain by police organizations.

Morales is also exiled in Cuba.

Students questioned on the City College campus by FOXNews.com Tuesday hadn’t heard about the flap.

"If you look at it at face value and think about what she did, it might seem wrong, but I think you really have to, like, look beyond the whole thing with the cops to really understand, like, where she’s coming from," said Orlando Ayala, a 24-year-old senior.

Sophomore Carlos Badilla, 20, of the Bronx, wanted to know why the center was named after Shakur.

"If it had nothing to do with killing the cop, it’s alright," he said. "You have to think why she did it, cause cops are known to mess with some people, you know. If she had a reason to do it then I have no problem with it."

But senior Diana Perez, 27, disagreed.

"I don’t see why they would name it after a woman like that," she said. "I don’t know their reasons behind it, but I don’t think it’s a good idea."

It is wrong! It is shameful! It goes against the grain of decency which should, and used to, govern our code of educating our youth to be good people and responsible citizens. It shows that CCNY is severly and wofully lacking in their responsibilities to their students and to the taxpayers.
This situation is indicative of the ultra liberal trend that seems to be so prevalent among college professors and administrators in America today. They are advocating left wing, socialistic and terrorist ideologies. This must not be allowed to happen in our universities. We must consistently fight against these evils which are obviously meant to subvert and brainwash the minds of our future generations and our future leaders. If they succeed, it will be the end of Democracy as we know it in this country. The very people who are destroying our country from within in the name of "Free Speech" and are justifying their violence in the name of Racial discrimination , are preparing the way for a dictatorship like Cuba or a socialist Communist government like the former Soviet Union. On the other hand we have other factions threatening to take over our country like the Mexican government and Alchaida. It is just too scary to think about.

The Assata Shakur situation is only part of the whole plan and the colleges are where the ripest young mind are to contaminate with all of this hate and rebellion ideology. Sounds Marxist to me! We are in big trouble if we don’t wake up and smell the coffee.

PS. How many know that Hillary Clinton was a professor of Marxism at the University of California at Berkley in the 70’s?
Frightening, isn’t it?

What do you think Pastor gets tasered pepper sprayed in Texas targeted because Guatemalan immigrants?

February 20, 2010 - 4:04 am 3 Comments

What would you do community angry after cop uses stun gun on violent pastor went inside the church returned with went inside the church and returned with 40 other congregants ?
Police officers in Texas shoot a pastor with a taser gun after
he allegedly interfered with a traffic stop in the church
parking lot.

Officer Raymond Berryman shocked Pastor Jose Elias Moran, 42,
with a taser gun on Wednesday when he confronted him and asked
why a member of his congregation was being interrogated.

Some 30 witnesses saw Berryman turn violent, kick the door of
the church and use pepper spray to break up his congregants at
the Iglesia Profetica Peniel church. BUT An incident report on the Webster police department’s Web site said Officer Raymond Berryman tried to calm Moran and arrest him. But police say he pushed the officer, went inside the church and returned with 40 other congregants.SEE this link http://www.policeone.com/police-products/less-lethal/articles/1852421-Texas-community-angry-after-cop-uses-stun-gun-on-violent-pastor/

"They treated him as if he were a drug dealer or murderer, but
he is a pastor that tries to help the community," AP quoted
the pastor’s son, Miguel, as saying. "The police always want
to be right but they are not."

The pastor’s wife, Maria, said she tried to help her husband
after he was shocked with the taser but police threatened to
arrest her. "My husband has a heart condition and with
electrocution who knows what could’ve happened," Maria Moran
told the AP.

Moran was sent to Harris County Jail on charges of interfering
with the duties of a public servant. He was later released on
a $500 bond. The pastor said his church was targeted because it is mostly
comprised of Guatemalan immigrants.

If the officer’s reason was a traffic stop, and the pastor did indeed interfere, then what is the problem? The same would have happened to me if I had approached an officer doing his job. Which is why I avoid the situations as much as possible. No one knows what might happen if the "suspect" should turn violent. Especially if the officer has to pull his gun. And officers are usually under stress, and in alert mode during these types of situations.

I’ve seen too many on-lookers, and rubberneckers get in the way more than they have helped. Some have even hindered.

Criminals have/are attacking our law enforement officers as it is.
